About Us
When We Meet

Our members live throughout Western New York, including the cities of Amherst, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Depew, Elma, Grand Island, Hamburg, Kenmore, Lancaster, Lockport, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, West Seneca, and more, reflecting the diverse population of federal workers and retirees throughout Erie and Niagara Counties.
Our chapter is one of 14 chapters of the NARFE NY Federation. The NY Federation is one of 7 states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont) that belong to NARFE Region 01. The Region 01 Vice President is Jeffrey G. Anliker.
What Meetings are Like
Meetings include updates on legislative matters affecting federal workers and retirees, and each meeting also presents a guest speaker providing information on a variety of engaging and thought-provoking topics. Past speakers and topics have included: a Surrogate Court Judge talking about Estate Planning and the probate process, local law enforcement on scams and active shooter response, an Erie County tech specialist on internet security, an IRS tax attorney on changes in the tax law and asset protection, a local congressman on current issues before the House of Representatives, and a preservationist talking about the architecture and historic residents living in Buffalo during the Gilded Age. Click here for information on our next meeting.
Travel and Fun
During the summer we sponsor daytrips throughout Western New York. Past events have included a double decker bus tour of Buffalo’s waterfront and Outer Harbor; a walking tour inside a massive, abandoned grain elevator; a boat trip on the historic Erie Canal and through the Lockport locks, and a winery tour and wine tasting at a Niagara Wine Trail vineyard. Each November, we present an Open Season Health Benefits fair with plan representatives speaking about health insurance plan options, changes in coverage, and premiums for the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) and the Postal Service Health Benefits (PSHB) programs.
To end the year, each December we hold a delicious holiday luncheon banquet with lots of raffles and door prizes. Raffles have included a signed Buffalo Bills jersey, a signed Buffalo Sabres jersey, Buffalo Bills game tickets, Buffalo Sabres game tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and an array of gift baskets.

Our NARFE Chapter 0439 also has a Service Officer to answer questions regarding federal employee and survivor benefits, death benefits, Social Security requirements, what to do upon the death of a federal annuitant, how to contact the Office of Personnel Management, federal life insurance, and health benefits.
Why NARFE?
NARFE is your voice in Washington, and our primary mission is to protect and preserve the pay and benefits of federal employees, retirees, and their families. NARFE Chapter 0439 was chartered in 1954 – and for more than 70 years has been working tirelessly in support of federal employees and retirees in our community.
NARFE’s mission is both critical and timely as Congress and the administration consider unprecedented cuts to federal pay and benefits. Each new member strengthens our message to Congress, fortifies our national outreach, and demonstrates their dedication to maintaining a strong and effective federal workforce.
Representing You
NARFE Chapter 0439 has members from throughout the federal workforce, including the Postal Service, Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, IRS, Customs, and more.
