Support Bringing the Social Security Fairness Act, H.R. 82 to a Floor Vote!
It is Grassroots Advocacy Month! Let’s make the added push for WEP-GPO repeal!
In the 118th Congress, we have seen tremendous progress building support for H.R. 82, securing 327 cosponsors, and counting.
On September 10, 2024 Congressman Garret Graves (R, LA) and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D, VA) filed a discharge petition with the House Clerk to force a vote on the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.
It’s past time for this bill to receive a floor vote in the House. Given the urgency and the limited legislative days remaining in the session, and absent committee action, NARFE is supporting a discharge petition for H.R. 82.
Once filed, a discharge petition would bring the bill directly to the floor for a vote, bypassing the committee process. Such a petition requires the signatures of a majority of House members (218) to move forward. Once the petition has the required signatures, the bill is brought to the floor for consideration, ensuring that it receives the attention it deserves without further delay.
Urge your representative to support a discharge petition for H.R. 82, enabling the bill to proceed directly to the floor for a vote.
Your advocacy has been instrumental in getting us to this point.
If your Representative has already cosponsored H.R. 82, thank them and urge them to support a discharge petition.
If they have not cosponsored H.R. 82, contact them and urge them to cosponsor this very important legislation and to support the discharge petition to bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
Currently, only the representatives from New York Congressional Districts 8 and 24 have not co-sponsored the current H.R. 82.
