IRS Furloughs Half of Its Workforce
The Internal Revenue Service announced on its IRS employee emergency news web page that it started an employee furlough on October 8, 2025. Only “already-identified excepted and exempt employees” remain on duty. Media outlets, such as the Associated Press, have provided specific numbers: IRS will furlough nearly half of its workforce as the government shutdown enters a second week.
