NARFE at Social Security Fairness Act Rally

Steven Roy, our Chapter 193 member, former Washington State Federation President, and Region 09 Regional Vice President (our representative on NARFE’s National board of directors) was in at NARFE Headquarters last week meeting with the other RVPs, and had the opportunity to take part in the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82) rally at the Capitol!

Steve reports it was very wet, even for a lifelong Western Washington resident! Many supporters of the Social Security Fairness Act (S. 597/H.R. 82) were there, including many union leaders, Leader Sen. Schumer, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, outgoing Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (sponsor of H.R. 82 and 2025 candidate for Governor of Virginia).  NARFE was also there, our National President Bill Shackelford spoke from the podium. This bill could be passed this year – in fact it’s looking kind of likely, a procedural vote just passed today (12/18/24)! This is a a great opportunity to point out to Feds you know the value of NARFE and invite them to join. More of this please.

UPDATE After years of work by NARFE to repeal WEP and GPO, this bill passed the Senate on December 21. The bill will be signed (with our NARFE President Shackelford in attendance) on January 6.  A proud moment in the history of NARFE!
