Why Phone Calls Matter:

Research indicates that phone calls are one of the most effective ways to influence lawmakers.  Unlike emails or social media messages, phone calls are less likely to be ignored and can have a significant impact on legislative decisions.

5 Calls –  The 5 Calls app is a free, nonpartisan tool designed to help U. S. citizens engage directly with their election representatives by making phone calls on important issues.  How it works:

  • Download the App:
Choose the application (Apple, Android, or Desktop)
iOS App Store or Google Play Store or 5calls.org

  • Set Up Your Profile:
On your first launch, you will be asked for your ZIP code to identify your local, state, and federal representatives.  You can add your name and email but you don’t need an account to make calls; your profile mainly helps track your progress and save your data across devices.

  • Select an Issue:
Browse a list of current issues needing constituent support. Topics range from healthcare and climate change to voting rights and government accountability.

  • Review Background Information:
Each issue includes a brief summary to help you understand the context and importance.

  • Make a Call:
The app provides the phone numbers of your representatives along with a pre-written script tailored to the selected issue. You can read the script during the call or leave a voicemail if no one answers.

  • Track Your Impact:
After each call, the app asks if you reached someone, left a voicemail, or didn’t connect. It also tracks the total number of calls made by you and all users.
