LSA and ZIP Code Repair

One of the ongoing projects CAB representatives have sponsored is investigation of anomalies in the Logistic Support Area assignments of ZIP Codes used by NARFE. The F-46 form defines LSA: “The Logistic Support Area consists of a group of postal ZIP codes that are or have been assigned to each chapter within a federation. Each state federation has the authority to establish and/or change a Logistic Support Area for each chapter within the federation. An individual ZIP code cannot be assigned to more than one chapter.” The form provided, however, does not assist federations in determining what ZIP Codes to assign to chapters.

Beginning in 2023, Configuration Advisory Board (CAB) representatives began using Randy Majors color-coded maps to visualize the areas of each federation. The maps make it easy to see missing LSA assignments and duplications.

A recent project by the TN Federation shows how effective this system can be. Mike Mellish and President Linda Heaton proposed changes to the LSA assignments for the TN Federation with confidence of its usefulness and accuracy. NARFE members can view the maps, database sources, and proposed changes for the TN Federation at the LSA ZIP Code Repair project page.
