Chapter vs Federation Communities

Chapter and Federation FEDHub communities are constructed differently. Chapter communities include all members who have joined a chapter and are listed in the Officer Portal as members of that chapter. Federation communities include all those NARFE members who live within the federation territory, it’s state or province boundaries. That means a federation community may include members of chapters within the state who live in another state, and may not (automatically) include all members of the federation. Specifically, those federation members who belong to a chapter within a state but who live outside that state may not be included as federation community members UNLESS they have voluntarily joined the federation community, or the federation community administrator has manually added them. In addition, any member of NARFE may join any federation community! This difference is important to understand for community administrators: the emails sent by a FEDHub chapter community administrator goes to every chapter member – and no one else. The emails sent by a FEDHub federation community administrator may not reach all federation members, and may be received by members who have voluntarily joined the community but are not in fact members of the federation.
