WSF Government Shutdown Message

I am sending this note to all Washington State Federation NARFE members, but especially the almost 500 of you that are active employees.

The rest of us, now retired, know from our own careers that you are heroes and rockstars that serve America, and we have you in our thoughts and prayers, and in our actions as we urge our members of Congress to work together and end this wasteful and destructive shutdown.

We are also thinking of those that may have recently retired (though the standard process, or DRP, or VERA) and are now in a holding pattern, through no fault of your own now facing a difficult wait for your retirement package to be processed and your annuity to start.

NARFE’s position is that shutdowns are a terrible error–a bad deal for all Feds and (as we know best from our experience) and very bad for the Nation as well.

During this difficult time, we urge you to remember the importance of your service as you do whatever you need to do to sustain you and your family and bring you joy.

Know that NARFE is a source of support as we go through this. Our hearts go out to you, and we encourage you to reach out to fellow Feds through FEDHub and also connect through your local NARFE chapters for support.  NARFE HQ also has resources available for you, including both information on the main web page www.narfe.org and the Federal Benefits Institute (www.narfe.org/federal-benefits-institute ).
