Recruitment Tools

Whether your recruitment efforts take place in a federal building, at a health fair, or as part of a local event that draws members from the federal community, how you present NARFE is critical to success.

Whether the prospective member is familiar with NARFE or about to be introduced to the Association for the first time, you and your table have just become their visual icon of the Association. You are the first impression.

  • Cover the table – A simple tablecloth can take your table from amateur to professional.
  • Avoid creating posters from cut-and-pasted materials.  Use the resources provided by NARFE.  You can find these under NARFE Membership Recruitment Resources.
  • Do not clutter the table with extras or personal items. If you have giveaways, find a clear glass bowl or place a group neatly on the table, replenishing as you go. Give each item you are displaying some room to be noticed.

When Displaying Materials – Less Is More

Remember that most of your prospects will be learning about NARFE for the first time. Too many printed materials will overwhelm. You will want to focus their attention on the most relevant benefits the Association offers. The fewer materials a prospect is given, the more likely they are to read it. A good recruiting/prospecting table includes:

  • Current issues of NARFE Magazine
  • F-135s (brochure with membership application and return envelope)
  • M-2s (new prospect cards)
  • M2s Online
  • Should your table have ample room, “Ten Worst Mistakes” (F-126 and F-127) might be added.

NARFE Recruiter Cards

NARFE offers a business card-sized template designed to help members recruit new prospects.  The cards feature NARFE contact information, along with a QR code that links directly to NARFE’s membership resources, making it easy for interested federal employees and retirees to learn more and join.  These cards are simple, professional, and practical tools.  Download TODAY!

This print-ready 4 x 6 rack card template is designed to help chapters and federations promote NARFE events, membership, and programs quickly and effectively.  There is a QR code on each side: one leads to the Join Us page, and the other directs them to the Online M2 form if they are not yet convinced to join.  This card is the best of both worlds.   Download TODAY!

Step Out and Greet the Prospects

The key to a great table is the Welcome. Make sure you step out from behind and greet each prospect. Sitting comfortably behind the table suggests that any inquiry is an interruption and discourages meaningful dialogue.

With So Little Time – Have the Perfect Pitch

Remembering that each prospect is passing through, there is little time to capture their attention and relay the importance of NARFE and its unique benefits to the individual. Have a practiced “elevator speech,” a well-rehearsed summary of what NARFE is, what NARFE does, and how the prospect will benefit from membership.  Sample Elevator Speech

The End Game … Capture the Prospect

You and your table are the NARFE brand, the message, and the vehicle for new membership. Create just the right stage, and shine!
