NARFE Referendum Election
The National Executive Board (NEB) passed Motion #17-11-25 in closed session on November 20, 2025 to fund $40,000 for a 2026 – Special Referendum to extend the terms of office for current and future NEB members. The current bylaws specify that Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs), National Secretary/Treasurer, and National President terms are two years, limited to two consecutive terms for the National President and three consecutive terms for the RVPs and National Secretary/Treasurer.
This referendum would change the bylaws so that both National officers and the RVPs (the NEB) would all serve three year terms, limited to two consecutive terms. A “PROVISO” included in the referendum states that current NEB members that are term-limited may run one more time when their term completes in 2026.
This NARFE election cycle (2026), the only officer that is term limited is the National President. All other NEB members are only completing their first or second term this year, and are allowed three consecutive terms, so they can run again whether the referendum passes or fails. If the referendum fails, the National President cannot run for re-election this year.
Members are urged to vote when the ballots are emailed on 1/26/26. Members are asked to vote by email; those that require a paper must contact NARFE HQ to request a paper ballot before Jan 16.
A special FEDHub community has been set up to discuss this referendum:
