USDA Reorganization Plan
On July 24, the Secretary of Agriculture issued a memorandum that directs the “the consolidation, unification, and optimization of functions within the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to achieve improved effectiveness and accountability, enhanced services, reduced bureaucracy and cost savings for the American people.” Their press release, Secretary Rollins Announces USDA Reorganization, Restoring the Department’s Core Mission of Supporting American Agriculture, summarizes the key points of the plan.
One agency intent is to relocate USDA staff closer to the people they serve. Most of the personnel at their headquarters and in the D.C. area will be moved to five hub locations, including Indianapolis IN. Those sites were chosen because they have a higher concentration of USDA employees and a lower cost of living.
The full Memorandum for the Department of Agriculture Reorganization Plan is also posted on the agency’s website.
