Social Security Reaches 90th Anniversary

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law in 1935. Frank J. Bisignano, Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, issued An Open Letter to the American People  to recognize this anniversary.

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, with a grant from AARP, produced a 46 minute video about the history of the program and efforts to privatize or eliminate it. Social Security: 90 Years Strong can be viewed on YouTube and Vimeo and there’s a short three minute trailer on YouTube. The documentary is free to watch and download. Its producers are allowing free screenings to be held to build public knowledge and support for Social Security.
