{"id":1489,"date":"2025-10-28T13:13:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T17:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/va\/?p=1489"},"modified":"2025-10-28T14:59:32","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T18:59:32","slug":"just-announced-colas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/va\/2025\/10\/28\/just-announced-colas\/","title":{"rendered":"Just Announced &#8211; COLAs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"363\" data-end=\"445\">The SSA has set the 2026 COLA at <strong data-start=\"396\" data-end=\"404\">2.8%.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The increase takes effect with benefits paid in <strong data-start=\"496\" data-end=\"512\">January 2026<\/strong> (and for SSI: beginning December 31, 2025) for eligible recipients.\u00a0For the \u201caverage retiree,\u201d this 2.8% increase translates into roughly an additional <strong data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"724\">$56 per month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"363\" data-end=\"445\">This is an excellent and timely strategic focus for the Virginia Federation of NARFE. Congressman Gerry Connolly first introduced H.R. 491, which\u00a0<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Congressman <\/span><strong data-start=\"57\" data-end=\"91\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><strong>James Walkinshaw has since taken over<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 <\/strong>This legislation will improve or protect COLAs (Cost-of-Living Adjustments) for federal and state retirees, aligning perfectly with NARFE and VFN\u2019s mission.
