Chapter 28 meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (except July and August), starting at 11:00 am for coffee and pastries at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 1769 S. Sycamore Street in Petersburg. The business meeting begins at 11:00 am, followed by a speaker or activity. Two meetings are not held at the church.\u00a0 The Christmas luncheon and the June Picnic are held in alternate locations.<\/p>\n

Meetings are advertised in local newspapers (shortly before the meeting), by the area newsletter, and by a telephone tree message through which members are provided the time, place, program\/speaker, and a contact person.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Chapter Activities<\/h4>\n

Chapter 28 is the oldest NARFE chapter chartered in Area III and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2020. The chapter\u2019s strong point is service to members. The chapter has the largest chapter service committee in Area 3. A Service Center is located at the Service Officer\u2019s home (phone (804) 520-3409). If there is no answer, another Service Committee member may be reached at (804) 530-3809. The chapter is also the first state NARFE chapter to maintain a Senior Navigator\u2019s Center to assist seniors and their families with information available on the internet. This center is maintained in Prince George (phone (804) 458-3835).<\/p>\n

Meetings are a time of socialization and information sharing on national, state, and other issues of importance to the active and retired federal employees and their spouses. The chapter supports Alzheimer\u2019s research and contributes generously. Funds are raised primarily through an auction of donated items and individual donations.\u00a0Members also donate generously to both state and national political action committees and are involved in dealing with state and national legislators on issues affecting members entitlements and taxes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
