Beware of NARFE E-Mail Scams

There have been a number of email scams passing among NARFE members lately that involve asking for money to be transferred from Chapter and Federation treasuries to members for various reasons, or that money be sent from members to NARFE. These emails look quite legitimate from NARFE officers or members asking for money for a particular project to be transferred or sent to certain unusual addresses. They often involve rather large sums of money. If you receive an email similar to this and it appears suspicious, please contact that person through another method and question them about the email. Often scams are poorly written with a number of grammatical or punctuation errors, or their manner of writing is not typical of the person you know. Any money expenditure or request by a chapter or federation is usually discussed and voted upon. Be suspicious of any unexpected request for money.
