NARFE CHAPTER 372

MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING

March 6, 2019

The March 6, 2019 meeting was called to order by our Chapter President, Barbara Bossert at 1 PM at Steppy's, at the Facenda Whittaker Bowling Lanes, 2912 Swede Road, East Norriton, PA 19401.

Pledge of Allegiance: Barbara opened the meeting by leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Introduction of Members and Guests: We had 27 members and guests present.

Program: Barbara introduced our guest speaker, Tim Elbertson, Montgomery County Community Outreach Coordinator. Tim talked about the County's 911 Center . They have 200 people working in their center which is located in Eagleville and they handle approximately 850,000 calls per year. They take the 911 calls for 93 fire jurisdictions in the county. The 911 system started in operation in 1993 with just a few jurisdictions signing up and not until 2013 did they get all the jurisdictions as part of the system. He mentioned that 78% of the calls they receive come in from smart phones which are harder to pinpoint the caller's location. But there is now a system called Smart911.com which residents are encouraged to contact to provide additional personal information that would be of help to first responders. Each 911 call is answered in 3 seconds and in 24.7 seconds help is dispatched. Tim gave more detail on the county's response procedures. All the counties immediately adjacent to Philadelphia have signed on to this enhanced system. His presentation was extremely interesting and we really appreciated him talking with us. He answered many questions, however if anyone has additional questions he can be reached at 610-631-6510 or e-mail at telberts@montcopa.org.
