2021 Medicare Part B Premiums Announced
November 9, 2020

In 2021, the total cost of the monthly Medicare Part B standard premium is increasing from $144.60 to $148.50. This is a 2.7 percent increase from 2020 to 2021, while most Social Security recipients and federal retirees are only receiving a 1.3 percent increase in income based on the 2021 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). The items that contribute to your MAGI include any money earned through wages, pensions, dividends, capital gains, Social Security benefits, and distributions from tax-deferred retirement plans, such as Traditional IRAs and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Distributions from Roth IRAs and Roth 401(k)s, life insurance, reverse mortgages and health savings accounts do not count in the MAGI calculation.
