NARFE Comments on the Senate’s Confirmation of Dr. Jeff Pon as OPM Director

March 8, 2018

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) President Richard G. Thissen issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s approval of the nomination of Dr. Jeff Pon for Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM):

“Confirmation of an OPM director is long overdue, in light of the numerous challenges before the federal community, and the role OPM plays in addressing those challenges. NARFE looks forward to working with Director Pon to ensure OPM preserves an effective federal workforce, longstanding federal workforce policies and earned benefits.

“I was pleased to hear Dr. Pon recognize the importance of federal employees for our nation’s success during his confirmation hearing. We at NARFE expect him to continue that recognition as OPM Director, and we’re eager to work with Dr. Pon to strengthen the federal workforce.

“NARFE members were also encouraged to hear Dr. Pon was aware of the need to make federal retirement claims processing simpler, quicker and modern to better serve retiring federal workers, who deserve the timely receipt of benefits they have rightfully earned.

“NARFE wishes Dr. Pon success in supporting the vital work that federal employees engage in every day, and much like with previous OPM directors, we look forward to a productive working relationship.”
