NARFE Officer PR Handbook

March 6, 2018

NARFE President Richard Thissen issued a formal letter to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) urging Acting Director Kathleen McGettigan to follow the Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) recommendations. Thissen urged OPM to rescind the policy guidance issued and reverse any actions to retroactively or prospectively reapportion a retiree’s Federal Employment Retirement System (FERS) Annuity Supplement. NARFE will continue to keep its members updated on this issue.

In response, OPM rejected all three recommendations, noting that it “did not consistently apply the apportionment to the FERS Annuity Supplement when a divorce order was issued. OPM recognized this inconsistency and has taken steps to correct its practices and notify annuitants and their former spouses of the matter.”  Click here to read the OPM letter.

NARFE will continue to keep its members updated on this issue.
