NARFE funded researcher leads promising Alzheimer’s study

Hyun-Sik Yang, Ph.D., whose research was supported by NARFE through sponsorship of an Alzheimer’s Association Clinical Fellowship in 2017, is first author on a new study that has recently received national media attention. The research was published this month in Nature Communications and highlights a major step forward in how Alzheimer’s disease may be detected.

The study shows that a simple blood test may be able to predict a person’s risk for Alzheimer’s years before memory problems begin and even before changes are visible on brain scans. This would help doctors identify the disease much earlier, opening the door to earlier care, planning and, ultimately, more effective treatments.
