That means if nothing passes this week (Nov 3\u20137), the soonest a funding resolution could land is Nov 17.<br>\nBut here\u2019s the kicker: that CR would only fund the government through Nov 21. And guess what? Congress is in recess again the week after.<br>\nUnless the House is called back early \u2014 which looks unlikely, since House Republicans are the only ones not in DC \u2014 we\u2019re staring down another shutdown cliff.<br>\nYes, special sessions can happen during recess. But in this case? Politically awkward. Optics matter. And the Senate alone can\u2019t pass a CR.<br>\nAnd here\u2019s the part no one\u2019s talking about: If the government isn\u2019t reopened by the New Year, many federal workers could get hit with a higher tax bracket next year \u2014 because back pay lump sums inflate taxable income.
