Social Security Beneficiaries’ Tax Bills May Change

For beneficiaries, federal tax liabilities from that income may change because of legislation that was signed into law this year. President Trump’s “big beautiful bill” introduced a $6,000 deduction for qualifying seniors, among other tax changes, while the Social Security Fairness Act may have increased benefit income for certain pensioners.

Annual Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) Announced

2026 cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) to federal retirement annuities and Social Security benefits have been announced, which will be 2.8% for Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) annuities and Social Security benefits and 2.0% for Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) annuities.
