Two Attention “Getters” for Federal Employees and Retirees

1. NARFE is urging Federal Employees and Retirees to contact Congress to request transparency, specificity and guaranteed protection from OPM’s request for more Federal Employee Health Benefits health data.

President William Shackelford issued a statement in response to the notice, noting that OPM may have legitimate reasons for obtaining the information, but highlighting the lack of adequate, articulated reasoning. President Shackelford also advised that OPM should only seek personally de-identified information to protect employees.

NARFE is now asking our members to reach out to your members of Congress today and urge them to address these concerns with OPM regarding the collection of health data!

2. The U.S. Postal Service has announced it will temporarily suspend its employer contributions to the FERS pension fund. And they made that announcement a couple of weeks ago based on testimony to Congress.

John Hatton, NARFE staff vice president of policy and programs talked about this and item number one with Terry Gerton, Federal News Network on April 24, 2026. He addressed what this means for folks who are currently affected by this delay in payments and also whether this is affecting pension payments to those who are already retired? You can read or watch from Federal News Networks posting.
