A comprehensive document has been developed to provide assistance with some of the questions such as summarized below and several may have been consolidated into one bullet for brevity:
• I applied for Social Security several years ago and was denied due to WEP/GPO. Is it worth the time to apply again?
• SSA sent me a letter that someone applied for benefits in my name. It was not me. What should I do?
• Can my former spouse prevent me from claiming spousal benefits against his/her account?
• I have a federal annuity. My wife worked in the private sector and has a Social Security benefit. Am I eligible for spousal benefits?
• I already have a Social Security benefit. But, it is reduced by WEP/GPO. Am I eligible for the updated benefit? How do I get it?
