Welcome to the official website of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), www.narfe.org (the “website”). We have adopted policies that demonstrate our organization’s commitment to respect the privacy of our members and other website users. We strongly believe that all information provided via electronic commerce and online activities must be used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online policy, we have implemented the following policy. Please read this entire Privacy Policy before using NARFE’s website or submitting information to NARFE through this website. By using the NARFE website, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

If you have questions or complaints regarding our Privacy Policy or practices, please contact us by any of the methods described below. If you do not agree with our policies, your choice is to not use the NARFE website or provide NARFE with your information.

Collected Information

NARFE only collects personal information that users voluntarily provide to NARFE. When users participate in this website as Members or as webinar and conference registrants, users are asked to enter their last name and membership ID or/and to register an email address and password in order to gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on the website. Information we ask users to provide may include their name, address, phone, email, and credit card information when they submit membership applications, and webinar and conference registrations.

Additionally, emails in HTML format and electronic newsletters are sent to our members through our listservs – some of which will be used to collect the specific information regarding what a member does with that email. We will monitor whether a member subsequently clicks through the links provided in the message. Our tracking feature may also collect the member’s destination page. We only use this information to enhance our services the distribution of those services to our members. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.

For website visitors who do not use the website’s log-in features, NARFE only collects aggregate data – such as IP address and the number of hits per page. Aggregate data are only used for internal marketing purposes and to improve users’ experience when visiting the website. No personally identifying information is provided or collected.

Using, Sharing, and Disclosing Information

NARFE uses information voluntarily submitted by members in the following ways:

NARFE Member Services: NARFE uses information collected to improve its own web content; to respond to members’ interests, needs and preferences; to develop new services; and to otherwise provide you with information that NARFE believes may be of interest to you.

When you terminate your membership or NARFE website account access, NARFE may continue to share information about you according to our legal and regulatory requirements.

Disclosures to Third Parties: We reserve the right to share information with trusted third-party vendors that provide contracted services for NARFE and its membership. NARFE will not sell, share, or rent the information to other parties other than to use the information to help us better serve our members.

NARFE also makes membership information available to its members in leadership positions using its online Membership Report portal. Special access and additional secure login credentials are required to view these reports. In addition, NARFE may also provide limited data to trusted third party vendors that provide services for NARFE. These limited data include names, and addresses, but do not include business phone numbers, business fax numbers, or e-mail addresses. Users may request NARFE refrain from disclosing the data it collects to third parties on their membership application form, conference registration form or any other form on which they are providing information; an opt-out box will appear on each form on which a user provides information. Alternatively, users may contact NARFE at memberrecords@narfe.org or 703-838-7760 to express their preferences if they determine later that they do not wish to have their information shared.

Credit Card Account Information: NARFE does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, NARFE submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, NARFE may disclose your personal information as required by law or as needed in legal proceedings when NARFE believes in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request. In addition, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale of some or all of our assets to a third party, we may also disclose your personal information to the third parties concerned or their professional advisors. In the event of such a transaction, the personal information held by NARFE will be among the assets transferred to the buyer.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are files containing information that websites transfer and store on a user’s hard drive. The use of cookies is an industry standard and is employed by most major websites. Most browsers default settings are to allow cookies. Users can reset their browsers to refuse all cookies or indicate when cookies are being sent. However, some parts of NARFE’s website will not function properly without the use of cookies. NARFE uses cookies only to facilitate automated activity, and store and track passwords. Cookies are not used to disseminate significant information about members over the Internet or to analyze any information that users have knowingly or unknowingly provided. If the user declines the attachment of any cookie, the user may not have access to the full benefits of the website. Registration enables the site to better determine members’ interest areas and provide the most relevant information.

SECURITY MEASURES

When you submit information to NARFE through our website, you should be aware that your information is transmitted across the Internet and that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. Although we take reasonable security measures to protect your information when we receive it, you also need to ensure you take appropriate steps to protect your information.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM NARFE

We will not send you promotional information without your prior consent and you can change your mind at any time by contacting us. If you no longer wish to receive NARFE’s promotional communications, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in each communication or by contacting us at memberrecords@narfe.org

INTERNATIONAL WEBSITE ACCESS AND CROSS-BORDER DATA TRANSFERS

If you are visiting the NARFE website from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located and NARFE is based. In addition, information that NARFE collects may be stored and processed in and transferred between any of the countries in which NARFE operates to enable the use of the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You agree to such cross-border transfers of personal information.

 

ACCESS AND CORRECTION/NOTICE TO ALL USERS

If your personally identifiable information changes, or if you no longer desire communications or information from NARFE, you may correct, update, amend, or deactivate it by making the change by contacting us at it@narfe.org

You may request a copy of the information NARFE holds about you so you can correct or amend information that may be inaccurate or incomplete by writing to memberrecords@narfe.org. In addition, we will ask you to provide sufficient evidence of your identity for your own protection so we can ensure that information is being released to the correct person. We will respond to your request to access within 30 days.

To request the deletion of your information, please contact us by writing to memberrecords@narfe.org In some cases, our business requirements and legal obligations may prevent us from being able to delete your information. If we are unable to delete your information we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why.

Links to Other Sites

This Web site contains links to other web sites. NARFE has no control over and is not responsible for the privacy policies or content of such sites.

SOCIAL MEDIA WIDGETS

The website includes social media features, such as the Facebook and Twitter buttons that run on our site. These features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our site, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site. Your interactions with these Features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN’S PERSONAL INFORMATION

The NARFE website is intended for adults, such as NARFE members and affiliates. NARFE does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Please contact NARFE at it@narfe.org If you suspect that NARFE has collected any such information.  If NARFE learns that we have collected the personal information of a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, NARFE will take steps to delete the information as quickly as possible.

AMENDMENTS AND UPDATES

NARFE will occasionally update this Privacy Policy. For any privacy policy changes, we will notify all members by email or a special announcement page on the website. In addition, any changes to our Privacy Policy will be posted here so that users will know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone. We encourage you to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices and this Privacy Policy.
