Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law in 1935. Frank J. Bisignano, Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, issued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/agency\/commissioner\/assets\/materials\/COSS-Open-Letter-90th-Anniversary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>An Open Letter to the American People<\/strong><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/agency\/commissioner\/assets\/materials\/COSS-Open-Letter-90th-Anniversary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0<\/a>to recognize this anniversary.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncpssm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare<\/strong><\/a>, with a grant from AARP, produced a 46 minute video about the history of the program and efforts to privatize or eliminate it. <strong>Social Security: 90 Years Strong<\/strong>\u00a0can be viewed on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X83f6qWsOuc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>YouTube<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/1109228522?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Vimeo<\/strong><\/a> and there\u2019s a short three minute trailer on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=strVY3yieJE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>YouTube<\/strong><\/a>. The documentary is free to watch and download.
