An Advocate for the Entire Federal Community, NARFE Supports DC Statehood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 19, 2019

In support of Washington, DC becoming a state of the Union, and recognizing the historical significance of today’s hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, NARFE National President Ken Thomas issued the following statement:

“Of the more than 190,000 active and retired federal and postal employees who work in Washington, DC, thousands of them also call our nation’s capital home. They pay taxes, contribute to the economic viability of their local community and serve our nation with distinction. Yet, they, and their fellow citizens living in the District of Columbia, lack the right to self-government enjoyed by those living in the 50 states. The time has come for Congress to exercise its authority and correct the inequity placed on residents of the District of Columbia so that their voices are no longer limited to a megaphone on the streets and instead heard in the halls of Congress through actual voting representation.”

In addition to this statement, NARFE submitted a letter to the committee in support of H.R. 51 – the Washington, D.C. Admission Act.
