NARFE Relieved Legislation Averting Another Shutdown Passed in Both House, Senate

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (February 14, 2019) – In response to the House and Senate passing legislation to fund federal agencies for the remainder of fiscal year 2019, and thus averting another government shutdown, NARFE National President Ken Thomas issued the following statement.

“With the passage of FY 2019 omnibus legislation, pending the President’s signature, NARFE is relieved to know that federal employees will remain working and not be placed in the same unnecessary and preventable position they were just weeks ago. As we saw firsthand, government shutdowns disrupt services provided to the American people, impose real economic costs both nationally and locally, and damage the government’s ability to recruit and retain talented and highly qualified professionals. We commend members of Congress for doing their jobs, placing country over party, proving they still possess the ability to compromise and showing federal employees the respect they deserve. The president must now sign into law this critical legislation without delay.”
