NARFE Applauds House Passage of Appropriations Bill Providing Federal Employee Pay Raise, Blocking OPM-GSA Merger

Alexandria, Va. (June 26, 2019) – In response to the House of Representatives today passing the Fiscal Year 2020 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, which includes a 3.1 percent average federal employee pay raise and blocks the Administration from moving forward on its proposed reorganization of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), NARFE National President Ken Thomas issued the following statement:

“The House’s support for competitive federal pay rates reflects the value of the critical roles federal employees play in keeping our country running safely, securely and efficiently. Passage of the bill today also sends a loud and clear message to the Administration that merging OPM with the General Services Administration (GSA) and moving civil service policy to the Executive Office of the President is not in the best interest of the American people. We appreciate the hard work and leadership of the House Appropriations Committee for shepherding this bill throughout the legislative process in a timely manner and look forward to continue working with the Senate to pass similar legislation that includes the pay raise and prevents the ill-conceived reorganization of OPM.”

In addition to this statement, NARFE submitted a letter to members of Congress yesterday, urging them to support the FY20 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act.
