HISTORY

DuPage Chapter 1771 was incorporated in Lombard, Illinois by the NARFE national office on October 21, 1980. It is a member of the Illinois Federation of NARFE Chapters.  The Chapter originally only served DuPage County.  The service area first expanded to include sections of western Cook County when the Bridgeview and Maywood NARFE Chapters disbanded.  Areas west of the Fox River in Kane County were added when the Fox Valley Chapter 2181 disbanded in 2020 and portions of Chicago were added when the Northwest Chicago Area Chapter 852 disbanded in 2022.

Although meetings were held for many years at the Helen Plum Library in Lombard on the 2nd Thursday of most months from 1 to 3 PM, other meeting dates, locations and times were added in the past several years.  Virtual meetings have been held first utilizing UberConference (now Dialpad) and Zoom since April 2020 due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Since COVID-19 cases have been significantly reduced in the Chapter 1771 service area, combined in-person and Zoom meetings at various locations in our service area began in April 2022 and have mostly continued during the warmer weather, with virtual meetings planned for the colder weather.

Combined in-person and Zoom meetings are currently held on the second Thursday of February, April, August, and October from 1 to 3 PM CT at the Villa Park Library in Villa Park or the Broadview Public Library in Broadview. The location will be identified in the meeting announcement one week prior to the meeting.
