{"id":1077,"date":"2024-10-13T13:46:30","date_gmt":"2024-10-13T17:46:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/chapter0439\/?p=1077"},"modified":"2024-10-13T13:47:26","modified_gmt":"2024-10-13T17:47:26","slug":"2025-cola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/chapter0439\/2024\/10\/13\/2025-cola\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 COLA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2025 Cost-of-Living (COLA) for Social Security and federal retirees under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) will be 2.5%.\u00a0 Retirees in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) will receive 2%.<\/p>\n<p>The Social Security Act ties the annual COLA to the increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) as determined by the Department of Labor\u2019s Bureau of Labor Statistics.\u00a0 Current law provides FERS COLAs are capped at 2% when the CPI-W increases between 2 and 3 percent and are reduced by 1 percentage point when the CPI-W increases by 3 percent or more.<\/p>\n<p>While NARFE celebrates the COLA announcement, not all in the federal community will reap its full benefits.\u00a0 FERS annuitants will not receive the full COLA.\u00a0 That is why NARFE supports the Equal COLA Act, H.R. 866, which would correct this unfair policy and bring COLAs for the more than 1 million FERS retirees and survivors in line with the full COLAs that CSRS retirees and Social Security beneficiaries receive.\u00a0 <span data-contrast=\"auto\">You can join NARFE\u2019s advocacy efforts to strengthen and safeguard COLAs by urging support for H.R. 866 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/advocacy\/legislative-action-center\/?vvsrc=%2fcampaigns%2f101016%2frespond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025 COLA for Social Security and CSRS retirees will be 2.5%, for FERS retirees will be 2%.
