Emerging Threats to the Federal Community

This Post has been started to try and keep our members informed on the Potential Emerging Threats to the Federal Employees and will contain information and resources on emerging threats to the federal community arising from executive actions or legislation, from large-scale reductions in the federal workforce that could be implemented in response to Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) recommendations, to the elimination of merit-based civil service rules that ensure a nonpartisan, professional civil service, to proposed cuts to earned federal benefits.

Advocacy Priorities Amid Emerging Threats and Historic Success
Thursday, February 6, 2025, 2:00 p.m. ET  Date has changed to February 13.
Tune in to hear the latest regarding NARFE’s advocacy priorities from John Hatton, NARFE’s SVP for Policy and Programs. Coming off the heels of our historic victory with the Social Security Fairness Act’s repeal of the windfall elimination provision (WEP) and the government pension offset (GPO), John will review the progress achieved on NARFE’s advocacy priorities over the last couple of years, and preview what NARFE’s priorities will be as a new Congress and new Administration are sworn in. Learn about emerging threats to the federal community arising from legislative threats and executive actions, and how NARFE – and its citizen-advocate members – will push back and fight against wrong-headed policies. Notably, we will cover:
• Potential cuts to earned federal benefits via “budget reconciliation” legislation;
• Threats to the merit-based civil service via the return of Schedule F;
• “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) initiatives to eliminate federal jobs;
• Return to office and relocation policies designed to encourage quitting
• Possible reductions-in-force (RIFs)
• Efforts to improve inflation-protection for federal annuities
• And more.
