(Photo\/Unknown)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the week of May 4-10, public servants across the country will be honored for their dedicated commitment to ensure our government fulfills the needs of all Americans. President Ronald Reagan and Congress first established Public Service Recognition Week in 1985 to recognize all public servants.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this year\u2019s St. Valentine\u2019s Day Termination of thousands of federal employees, Washington State had 68,000 federal civilian and postal employees. Michael Baumgartner represents 14,000 of these public servants in Washington\u2019s Fifth Congressional District. They deliver our mail, service our Social Security benefits, serve our veterans, and fight wildland fires among many other tasks.<\/p>\n<p>As past president of the Spokane Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, I encourage everyone to say \u201cthank you for a job well done\u201d to all public servants during May 4-10.
