NARFE has a long tradition of defending the earned benefits of federal employees and annuitants, and now protects democracy itself. A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/blog\/2025\/02\/06\/narfe-files-suit-to-preserve-merit-based-civil-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit was filed<\/a><\/strong> today by <strong>NARFE<\/strong> and the <strong>Government Accountability Project<\/strong> \u201cchallenging the Trump Administration\u2019s attempt to dismantle <strong>a cornerstone of American democracy<\/strong>: a federal civil service rooted in merit and integrity.\u201d The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.narfe.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/02\/Complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit alleges<\/a><\/strong> that<strong> implementing Executive Order 14171 would make it easier to gut<\/strong> the civil service and replace them with partisans, a clear violation of the intent of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civil_Service_Reform_Act_of_1978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Civil Service Reform Act of 1978<\/a><\/strong>.
