NARFE Continues Push to Repeal WEP and GPO

As we quickly approach December, time is of the essence to bring the Social Security Fairness Act, H.R. 82, to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) to the House floor. After the House Ways and Means Committee advanced the bill on September 21, H.R. 82 now awaits floor action, which is decided by House leadership and influenced by committee leaders. As we enter the last month of the 117th Congress, NARFE is making a final push to encourage these leaders to act.

H.R. 82, which has gained 305 cosponsors and holds bipartisan support, would fully repeal WEP and GPO, both of which unfairly reduce Social Security benefits for many Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) annuitants.

NARFE is specifically pushing members to contact Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer and House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal and Ranking Member Kevin Brady. You may also do so by contacting your own representative, and urging them to join the push. The action letters stress the importance of bringing H.R. 82 to the floor by the end of the year. In addition, members of these targeted districts are encouraged to call their representatives using NARFE’s toll-free advocacy line at 1-800-456-8410, option 5.
