Alexandria, VA – On Monday, July 10, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) National President Richard G. Thissen will join Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, D-VA, for a town hall meeting focusing on Alzheimer’s activism. Thissen will appear with a panel of Alzheimer’s activists from Northern Virginia and will speak at the event, titled “Facing Alzheimer’s: Community Resources, Support and Action.”

NARFE has long partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association, with NARFE members donating more than $12 million over the last 30 years to help find a cure for this debilitating disease. Since 1985, NARFE has helped fund more than 71 Alzheimer’s related projects in order to advance Alzheimer’s research. NARFE members once again demonstrated their commitment to end this disease by participating in local Alzheimer’s walks, raising over $41,000 for research this year. Their consistent support has allowed the fight to push forward.

“I’m proud of the persistent effort NARFE members have contributed to end Alzheimer’s, and I thank them for their continued support. Many of us know of someone with this disease or who is caring for someone afflicted with this disease, and are all too familiar with its devastating effects. Together, NARFE members are making a difference in the fight to end Alzheimer’s, and we thank Congressman Connolly for his commitment to this fight,” Thissen said.

NARFE members throughout the national capital area are encouraged to attend this town hall, which is open to the public. The event will take place at the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter Conference Center at 8200 Greensboro Drive, McLean, VA 22102. Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m. ET and will be followed by presentations starting at 10:30 a.m. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP via email by Friday, July 7.

Participating in this town hall reaffirms NARFE’s strong commitment to curing Alzheimer’s disease. Local NARFE members are encouraged to join with President Thissen and Rep. Connolly in addressing the many ways that people can take action to cure this disease. More information about the event is available here.
