Information for Anthem Enrollees About Security Breach

February 10, 2015

Anthem Inc., the country’s second biggest health insurer, recently experienced a large security breach when hackers broke into its database. As many as 80 million records of current and past enrollees, containing personal information, may have been stolen.   Anthem offers Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in many states and under the Blue Cross Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. At this time, it is unknown who has been impacted or what information was compromised.  Current and former members affected will be notified directly by Anthem and offered credit monitoring and identity protection services free of charge.  Enrollees are encouraged to visit Anthem’s website for updates.  From this website, members can access Anthem Facts to obtain answers to frequently asked questions as well. Anthem has also established a dedicated toll-free telephone number for members to call if they have questions related to this incident.  The number is:1-877-263-7995.
