Alexandria, VA – During Public Service Recognition Week, May 3-9, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) is proud to salute the men and women who serve our country. Organized by the Public Employees Roundtable (PER), of which NARFE is a member, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is the time set aside every year to honor military, federal, state, county and local government employees.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Public Service Recognition Week. The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Government Works.” Throughout the country, mayors, city and town councils, federal agency leaders, communities and public service organizations participate by issuing proclamations, hosting award ceremonies and special tribute events, and delivering messages about the value of public service.

“As president of the largest federal employee and retiree association, I often highlight the many ways NARFE members and their colleagues serve the nation. In the past few years, we’ve seen federal employees tackle the Ebola crisis, take down Osama Bin Laden and transform NASA’s space travel program. But away from the headlines, millions of federal employees work hard every day, without fanfare, to keep our government functioning efficiently and effectively. One week of celebration is not enough, but please join me, especially during Public Service Recognition Week, in expressing appreciation for the important work public servants do for America.”

NARFE and the Public Employees Roundtable encourage government employees and retirees alike to take the opportunity to convey the value of the work they do, and their personal pride in working for our nation. To help spread the word, “like” NARFE and PER on Facebook and join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #PSRW. More information on PSRW can be found at http://publicservicerecognitionweek.org/.
