Newsletter Guidelines
These are suggestions rather than iron-clad rules. Since we’re all volunteers it helps the whole team if the process is efficient and effective for those involved. Articles may be edited to fit into the space available. The Editor reserves the right to withhold articles deemed inappropriate.
DEADLINE:
Article deadline is the Monday following the regular meeting date (third Friday) in March, June, September and December.
2009 deadlines are June 22, September 21 and December 21.
SUBMISSION FORMAT:
Electronic submission is preferred with e-mail the preferred medium. Alternatives include IBM PC-compatible 3.5" diskette, CD-ROM or USB drive. When sending e-mail, the e-mail message header or beginning text should make it clear it is an article
The article should be a Microsoft Word .DOC or Microsoft Word compatible file format. If that is not possible, create the file as a text file. Graphics should be separate, individual files, and the .JPG format is preferred for graphics. Please identify any people in photographs if relevant.
ARTICLE LENGTH:
The current newsletter format is two columns per page. The front page holds about 400 words. An inner page can hold about 550 words, or about 250 words for a half page. These counts allow for an article heading, but do not allow for related pictures, tables, or “call-outs” to draw reader attention to key points. Preferred article length is 250 to 500 words.
ARTICLE CONTENT:
It’s easier for the reader if an article focuses on a single topic, rather than many topics. This may require coordination among the authors, especially the officers, so that important topics are covered but not duplicated. If material from other sources is included, please cite the source. We cannot reprint copyright material without the owner’s permission.
