Majority of House Votes To Cut 100,000+ Defense And Security Jobs, Cuts $368 Billion From Federal Workforce

Joseph A. Beaudoin, president of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), issued the following statement in response to the passage today of the budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-WI, chairman of the House Budget Committee.

“The House-approved budget would cost the federal workforce $368 billion. It further shifts America’s budget burden onto middle-class federal workers by extending the current two-year pay freeze through 2015, cutting federal worker paychecks to pay more for already sound retirement plans and shaving one in 10 federal jobs.

“Congress is repeatedly slapping penalties on federal workers who protect Americans and keep our nation moving forward. This will have dire consequences. In addition to cutting more than 200,000 vital federal jobs at places like the Pentagon and the CDC, these antagonistic proposals have already caused some of our nation’s most experienced employees to leave the government.

“America’s federal workforce has already sacrificed $75 billion to help get the country’s budget back on track. Enough is enough.”
