NARFE National President Ken Thomas Statement on the Life and Legacy of Chairman Elijah Cummings

Alexandria, Va. – “The federal community has lost a beacon of light that shined bright on policies and issues affecting millions of federal employees and retirees with the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD). As Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, his appreciation for civil servants across the country was exemplified through his leadership on issues such as the future of the U.S. Postal Service and the TSP Modernization Act. His compassion for society’s underserved, courage in the fight for civil rights and powerful presence in the halls of Congress will be greatly missed. Our condolences are extended to his family, friends, staff, House and Senate colleagues and the entire federal community, particularly NARFE’s Maryland Federation, whose experience and connection with him allowed its members to see firsthand how advocacy in the policymaking process benefits the public good.”
