NARFE’s Hard Work Gets Federal Pay Raise Included in FY 2019 Omnibus Legislation

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (February 14, 2019) – In response to the inclusion of a 1.9 percent average pay raise for federal employees this year in the FY 2019 omnibus legislation, NARFE National President Ken Thomas issued the following statement:

“As the Trump administration touts our country’s economic gains, providing federal employees with a modest increase in pay is long overdue common sense. Lagging behind the private sector for decades when it comes to competitive salaries, the federal government needs to maintain a well-qualified and high-performing workforce now more than ever. This average 1.9 percent pay increase is a small, yet positive, step to ensure the federal government can recruit and retain the best of the best for the benefit of the American people.

“Without this congressional action, nearly 2 million federal workers across the country would have remained in a pay freeze. In the midst of a strong economy and increasingly competitive labor markets, a federal pay freeze only exacerbates recruitment and retention challenges for the most in-demand federal occupations. We thank congressional leaders for recognizing the hard work of our nation’s civil servants and urge Congress to swiftly pass the FY 2019 omnibus legislation.”
