NARFE Cautiously Optimistic on Passage of 2019 Federal Pay Raise

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (October 4, 2018) – In response to reports that an agreement has been reached between House and Senate republicans to give federal employees a 1.9 percent pay raise, NARFE President Richard G. Thissen issued the following statement:

“NARFE has been working hard with Congress and remains cautiously optimistic that federal employees will receive a 1.9 percent pay raise in 2019 after hearing preliminary reports that the House and Senate have reached an agreement supporting it. This modest increase in pay not only acknowledges America’s hardworking, middle-class federal employees, but also serves as an investment that will help maintain and strengthen the federal workforce and align it more competitively with the private sector. While this appears to be a step in the right direction, we recognize this development is not final and that elements in the agreement may change when the Senate and the House reconvene after the upcoming midterm elections.”
